Lord, we thank you for the vision and courage of those Christians who have gone before us. Help us, in our day, to minister to all your people. In times of uncertainty help us to rest on you. In times of despair, give us your hope.

Barrow's Deanery Profile

Barrow has often been described as being the town at the end of the longest cul de sac in the British Isles. Nevertheless it is a lively, vibrant town, and nowhere can this vibrancy be experienced more comprehensively than in its church life.

So far as the Anglican churches in Barrow are concerned, one of the really interesting things is that they are all different, representing all strands of worship.

Nevertheless it is a very happy deanery and we all get on very well. My own church, St James, where I am treasurer, has had an interregnum for the last two years, a long time. In that two years the local clergy have rallied around us so that we have not missed a single service.

This is typical of the spirit of the Barrow Deanery. Relations with the other Christian denominations are also very good. Churches Together in Barrow, now under the chairmanship of Canon Carol Farrer, also continues to flourish.

We may be at the end of a cul de sac but Barrow is certainly not a dead end.
