Castle Carrock St Peter

Location: 4 miles from Brampton on the B6413
Description: The present church built in 1828 and restored in 1888 stands on the site of an earlier church on the mediaeval site. One of the interesting features within the church is the grave-slab of John de Begho Kirk, a Rector who died in 1346. If you examine his memorial in the Sanctuary you will find on it the inscription: “HIC IACET DOMINUS JOHES DE GEGHOKIRK QUONDAM RECTOR ISTIUS ECCLESIE ORA”, and as proof he was a priest you will see carved thereon a Chalice and a book. Above this memorial is a wall tablet to John Pearson, who was rector from 1739 to 1777, during the time of the 1745 rebellion when Prince Charlie established temporary headquarters in Brampton. Open during daylight hours There is a permanent children’s area at the front of the church
