St Mary’s Church is an ancient edifice and is probably one of the oldest churches in the area that has not been rebuilt or revised in any important way. The church dates from about 1160AD. The North arcade of three bays is probably of about 1200. In 1810 the chancel was partly rebuilt on the original foundation.
The East window is probably Anglo-Saxon and there are a variety of stained glass windows, most by artists unknown. In the South wall is a small length of Norman zigzag.
The belfry houses a single large bronze bell with iron striker and an oak headstock. The ringing chamber is over the entrance lobby and houses the clock mechanism.
There is a permanent children’s area at the front of the church

With the aid of several grants, including a substantial amount from English Heritage, work will begin in September that includes re-roofing, re-wiring and installation of a new heating system.
