Cleator Moor St John the Evangelist

Description: St John the Evangelist: the Church was consecrated on 25th June 1872. The style is described as Anglo-Norman. It consists of a large and lofty nave, with clerestory windows, with large aisles on both sides, and will accommodate about 900 persons. The church tower is 68 feet high and contains the heaviest set of bells in the Diocese. The church is a Grade II listed building.

Wath Brown Mission Church

Description: A daughter church to St John’s, Wath Brow Mission Church was originally a Wesleyan Chapel that was pulled down at another site and re-erected at Wath Brow with the addition of a substantial tower and “spiret”. The church seats about 300 persons and was immortalised in a painting by the celebrated artist, L. S. Lowry. It was licenced for divine worship on 24th November 1881 by the Lord Bishop of Carlisle.
