The Parish Church of Keswick St John was built in 1838, a fine example of the work of architect Anthony Salvin. There is some excellent stained glass, mainly by Henry Holiday, with a very interesting window by Veronica Whall. The second Vicar began the now world famous Keswick Bible Convention in 1875. This continues for three weeks each July. Harrison of Durham built the organ, considered to be one of the best small church organs in the North of England. Visitors can sit on the west-facing terrace and enjoy the peace and view the surrounding hills, one of the finest views in Keswick.
When the church was founded, the style of worship and teaching was in the evangelical mode. Today the tradition is broad based modern catholic. Common Worship is the foundation of most services with the Book of Common Prayer being used for Evensong. At the 10.00a.m. Sunday Sung Eucharist a Sunday School is provided for children of 3 to 11 years old, except on the third Sunday in the month. On this third Sunday, there is a Eucharist for All-ages, intended for the whole family. Traditional music is mixed with lively modern worship songs, sometimes lead by our music group.
