Rampside St Michael

Location: Situated in an elevated and isolated position about half a mile from Rampside itself on the A5087 Coast Road between Barrow and Ulverston
Description: The church has a marker stone dated 1621 but this relates to its days as a chapel of ease. The building is substantially Victorian and simple in style and has been extended and refurbished from time to time, now includes a kitchen and toilet. Once known locally as either the ‘farmer’s church’ because pf its rural setting, or the ‘sailor’s church since many a drowned sailor was buried there in the past. Past evidence of Viking settlement and associations with the land and sea over the centuries, the church tends to ‘catch the elements’ but the view out to sea and the welcome is wonderful! See website for more information, history and pictures.
