Overview

The Diocesan Board for Social Responsibility promotes and co-ordinates the thought and action of the Diocese of Carlisle in matters affecting the life of everyone in society. With this aim and objective the Board is pleased to work ecumenically through the Social Responsibility Forum of Churches Together in Cumbria and with a wide range of secular bodies. Its Officer is readily available for advice upon request.

The Diocesan Social Responsibility Officer is also the Urban Priority Areas and Church Urban Fund Link Officer and the Archbishops' Council's Committee for Minority Ethnic Anglican Concerns Link Officer.

From time to time the Diocesan Board for Social Responsibility publishes booklets giving helpful advice in a nutshell. These are include below.

Although child protection issues are outside its remit the Board continues to be responsibly aware. It is currently collaborating with the Bishop's Child Protection Adviser and Representatives in preparing a booklet giving advice on how to respond when unexpectedly confronted by various matters relating to children, young people and families. The guide is being produced in the knowledge that the Diocese expects every parish to have, review and enforce a Child Protection Policy but with a wider aim. It is hoped that it will be, when published, a useful and practical aid.
