Mission Statement

The Board has authorised a Mission Statement as follows:

In the context of paragraph 2 of the Diocesan Board of Education Measure 1991 the functions of the Carlisle Diocesan Board are threefold:

1. Statutory Education

  1. To promote or assist in the promotion of education which is consistent with the faith and practice of the Church of England;
  2. To promote or assist in the promotion of religious education and religious worship in schools;
  3. To promote or assist in the promotion of Church schools and to advise any body or person concerned on any matter affecting Church schools in the Diocese.

2. Voluntary Education

  1. To promote or assist in the promotion of work with young people (aged 11 and over) in parishes and deaneries;
  2. To support and advise on activities in our Diocesan Youth Centres;
  3. To promote or assist in the promotion of work with children (aged 11 and under) in parishes and deaneries.

3. General

  1. To support the above work in statutory and voluntary education through the provision of resources; and in particular the provision of a Religious Education Resources Centre in Carlisle, and the provision of appropriate Officers;
  2. To promote co-operation with bodies or persons concerned in any respect with education in the Diocese.

Diocesan Director of Education and Chief Officer of the Diocesan Board of Education. He has overall responsibility for the work of the Education Office which deals with both statutory and voluntary education.
