Rydal Hall wins Cumbria in Bloom awards

The awards were held at Houghton Hall Garden Centre, near Carlisle, on 4th September and Rydal Hall was proud to be presented with the South Lakeland Trophy Award for Tourism in the Borough, for the recently restored Formal Gardens and the Hall's diverse surrounding estate areas.

The Rydal Hall Community Vegetable Garden was also presented with a Merit in the RHS Neighbourhood award category. All the credit must go to the team of volunteers who use and care for the garden, and have made it the success that it is.

The Rydal Hall management team would like to thank all who have been involved, whose hard work and dedication, both past and present that have contributed to the success of the Formal Gardens restoration Project.

Iain Turnbull, the head gardener, said, "Despite the difficult weather and conditions this summer, the gardens have continued to look well and be enjoyed by many visitors to the Hall. They have also continued to light up an otherwise dull and wet few months. I'm proud to have accepted the awards on behalf of all have who been and are involved in the gardens here. Special mention must go to the volunteers in the Vegetable Garden, who really make it the success that it is, and to all staff at Rydal Hall who contribute so much to the place as a whole."

General Manager Jonathon Green said, "I am delighted that Iain Turnbull(our Head Gardener) has had his hard work recognised. We are now looking forward to the Centenary of the Gardens in 2009 when the Gardens will be the venue for a variety of celebration events."
