Season of Invitation
‘It’s great to see you!’ - Special training sessions to help churches invite others
Most people start attending church because they are invited, but people in churches are not always good at taking initiative or doing the inviting! A Season of Invitation helps churches think about the opportunities of their normal pattern of services and events, and gives practical hints and tips to strengthen the way we invite people along.
Last year a Season of Invitation, which began as Back to Church Sunday in 2004, was expanded to include five other invitational opportunities:
• Back to Church Sunday (September),
• Harvest (October),
• Remembrance (November),
• Christmas Starts (early December),
• Christmas (December).
To help churches make the most of these five services, high-quality invitation cards for each one, as well as a children’s invitation card that can be used for any of the services, were made available.
And now, as further support, a series of resources and local training events are to be held to help churches make the most of their Season of Invitation.
As part of this, the team at Season of Invitation have arranged two training events which are to be held in the Diocese of Carlisle. The two evening events cover the same content, but are in different parts of Cumbria. They will be interactive and relevant for both clergy and churchgoers who are interested in making the most of opportunities to invite people to church. The evenings will help churches think about their overall annual programme of events, and how to make the most of those opportunities.
The events are free and are open to a total of 25 churches from across the diocese. Allocation will be on a first come, first served basis.
These will be held on:
Monday 13th July, 7-9pm
St Peter’s Church, Kingstown Road, Carlisle, CA3 0BB
Friday 17th July, 7-9pm
St Paul’s Church, Abbey Road, Barrow in Furness, LA13 9JY.
Subject to demand for training, please be aware that a maximum number of churches for either venue will be 13. Churches are invited to bring a ‘team’ so when booking it will be important to confirm the number of attendees as well as providing a lead contact name for the team.
