Overview
The welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults is an absolute priority for the Church.
The Diocese of Carlisle - and the Church of England nationally - take their responsibilities for safeguarding these groups very seriously, and the Diocese accepts the C of E House of Bishops’ policies relating to them:
- Protecting all God's Children
- Safer Recuitment: guidelines for all who work on behalf of the Church of England
- Promoting a Safe Church
- Responding to domestic abuse

Policy
The 2012 version of the Safeguarding Policy is now avialable for download; it is still labelled "draft" as it is to go before the June 2012 Diocesan Synod for final approval.

Emma MUST be contacted immediately if there are any concerns regarding safeguarding or abuse of anyone in these vulnerable groups. She is also happy to answer other questions and provide advice relating to these issues or policies. Her usual day of work is Tuesday but she can be contacted at any time for urgent matters.
Emma works with a Safeguarding Panel, chaired by the Bishop of Penrith, which meets quarterly; other members of the panel include :
- Ron Davie (retired Director of the National Children’s Bureau)
- John Fletcher (retired Director of Social Services)
- David Mills (retired Senior Probation Officer)
