Where can I get married? Changes
In July 2007, the General Synod (the Church of England's governing body) approved steps to widen the wedding regulations; these come into effect on the 1st October 2008. The regulations are designed to make it easier for couples to get married in a church that has special meaning to them.
The link with a particular church is called a qualifying connection. Examples are:
- their local parish
- the parish where they were baptised and/or confirmed
- a parish they have lived in for 6 months or more, at any time during their lives
- a parish they have attended worship in for at least 6 months
- the parish their parents lived or worshipped in (during the child's lifetime)
- the parish their parents or grandparents were married in.

NB when calling banns, there is a new form of words:
"N ... of this parish" should be changed to "N ... of the parish of X who wishes to be married in this church by virtue of his/her connection with this parish"
Fees
Fees for weddings and funerals are set by General Synod acting under the authority of Parliament.

Marriage of Foreign (Non-EU) Nationals
In future when an application is made for marriage by a non-EU Foreign National the Minister who is to conduct the service should take photocopies of the parties’ passports and/or any immigration documents and those copies will be sent to the UK Border Agency for scrutiny before the application is submitted to the Chancellor. If in any doubt, please contact the Registrar,
