One of eight churches in the the northern part of the Diocese of Carlisle which are dedicated to St Mungo (St Kentigern). A wooden church may have been here during the 3rd century, replaced by a stone building before the Romans withdrew from the area in

The parish of Waverton-cum-Dundraw was etablished in 1902 with Christ Church as the parish church. The building was completed in 1865, with 76 subscribers enabling the Maryport architect Charles Eaglesfield to complete the design.

A warm welcoming church with active support from a small committed congregation

The church of St Matthew's was built in 1857, together with the adjacent church school, which was completed a year later. Both are situated in the heart of the village. The church runs the regular village dance evenings, and domino evenings.

5 miles south of Abbey Town, 6 miles north of Allonby, 6 miles south of Silloth, and a mile and quarter from the village of Mawbray.

A warm welcoming congregation with strong links to the church school located next door.

Holme St Cuthbert Church was built in 1845 in the Gothic style. It became a separate ecclesiastical parish in 1857. The Church is the only place of worship in the Parish and is open daily. It has been described as "a place of calm in a very busy world."

Midway between Silloth and Wigton

An active congregation, supporting the local community and reaching out to parish, visitors and tourists.

There is a tea room which is available for group bookings and an exhibition focusing on the historical significance of this former Cistercian Monastery.

Coffee Mornings are held weekly on Wednesdays at 10am

A monthly community lunch is served in the Tea Room on the first Thursday of each month at 12 noon.

The church is open daily.

 

Holme Cultram St Mary was built in the 12th century, a former Cistercian Abbey, founded by monks from Melrose Abbey. It is one of the few remaining Cistercian abbey churches still used as a place of worship.

Overlooking Silloth Green the church is a significant landmark and is open daily for visitors and for private prayer.

A warm welcoming church commited to reaching out to community and visitors and an active member of Churches Together in Silloth.

 

Exterior: attractive "broken" stonework with the spire visible for miles around. Interior: brickwork in various tones; and apse; the 'pasta' celtic cross!
