Langdale
Holy Trinity, the Parish Church of the Langdales, stands on the hill overlooking the village of Chapel Stile. It is to the right off the B5343 and two narrow lanes lead up the hill from the village. Parking is usually available tucked in to the side of nearby roads; for disabled people there is reserved parking underneath the church walls but only on a Sunday morning.

Holy Trinity is a warm and welcoming country church and we aim to make all feel comfortable whatever church background they come from. We call ourselves a "walkers' church" as people in stockinged feet and well behaved dogs are frequently in attendance. There is a committed core of regulars from the locality and we are also blessed with a large number of visitors throughout most of the year - many of whom attend year after year on the same Sunday of the year as they have a Time Share in the Langdale Estate.  Often in the summer there will be a parish walk during the week in which all are most welcome to participate.

The present church was built in 1857 but there has been a place of worship on the site since the 1570s. The style is decorated Gothic and the church is built of local slatestone. Several interesting features include fine carving on the reredos and pulpit, a fine stained glass of St Francis window made by a local craftsman and the Millenium Tapestry - a series of brightly coloured panels of tapestry documenting the history of the valley over the last 10,000 years. This is on the North wall of the church.  It was recently (December 2018) voted the " fourth most beautiful church in Britain" by Countryfile viewers - and the setting is certainly magnificent.
