An Architecturally distinctive church by Sir Robert Lorimer and with finely executed carved oak furnishings reputedly by Whitlock & Reid of Edinburgh, a firm frequently used by Lorimer. The walling stone of the tower and church is rock faced Lazonby Fell sandstone in narrow courses ranging in colour from buff through pink to red. Window dressings are of St. Bees type red sandstone of more uniform colour and texture. The tower is of massive construction with battered wall surfaces to above half height and with an unusual stepped crenellation to the parapet. The roof is well executed in random and diminishing slate swept out over sprockets at the eaves and swept up at the gables to prevent run-off. A good example of careful practical detailing used as architectural expression. The internal carved oak furnishings are of exceptionally high quality and display careful attention to choice of radially sawn figured oak for the most prominent elements. The Lych Gate was built and inscribed of materials matching the church and inscribed as a war memorial for the 1914-1918 war.
