Carry the cross on an Easter pilgrimage

Organisers of a special Easter walk from Cumbria to Holy Island are looking for people to join them.

The walkers leave Carlisle at 8.30am on Saturday 23 March and will carry a cross along the entire route.

It will take them along Hadrian’s Wall, part of the Pennine Way, across Ministry of Defence ranges at Otterburn and skirt the Cheviots to Belford and Holy Island.

Maggie Mason, who has helped organise the Northern Cross 2013 walk, said: “For the right people, especially young adults unsure of their faith but ready for a real ‘team build experience’, this can be an amazing experience.”

The walkers will cross the pilgrim causeway to Lindisfarne, with other groups, on Good Friday and celebrate Easter on Holy Island on Sunday 31 March in a unique and ecumenical way.

If anyone is interested in joining the pilgrimage, for the whole week or part of it, then contact Maggie Mason on 07786 195629 or e-mail maggiem.mason@gmail.com or Dave Roberts, Diocesan Communications Officer, on 07984 927434.
