Lake District vicar's official book launch

A Lake District vicar has held an official book launch, heralding the publication of his latest work.

Rev Cameron Butland is the Rector of St Oswald’s Parish Church in Grasmere and is also the Ecumenical Officer for the Diocese of Carlisle.

Cameron used a three month sabbatical, earlier this year, to research and write his latest book, Walking into Celtic Spirituality.

It explores the influence of the founding saints in the British Isles. It also includes details of 20 ‘thin’ places (spiritual places) and walks which are linked to them.

And yesterday (Tuesday 24 September) there was an official book launch at Grasmere Church.

Cameron said: “I’m thrilled to have completed the book. I’m passionate about the subject and am delighted with the finished product.

“I’d hope it give readers a real insight into how founding saints such as Oswald, Patrick, Cuthbert, Kentigern, Bede and Ninian had such a strong influence which continues to resonate today.”

Hand drawn maps appear at the end of each chapter, to allow walkers to follow marked routes.

The book also contains poems, prayers and excerpts from ancient manuscripts associated with the founding saints.

At the launch, there was a short presentation from Cameron and a question and answer session before he completes a book signing.

Walking into Celtic Spirituality is priced at £7.99 and is available for pre-order from booksellers and online via Cameron’s email address.
