House for Duty Priest in Charge at Lorton, and Loweswater with Buttermere within the Grasmoor Mission Community

Lorton, Loweswater and Buttermere

House for Duty Priest in Charge

  • The Benefice covers perhaps the most beautiful Lake District valley
  • The Vicarage is in Loweswater
  • The Benefice and its two parishes are committed to the Diocesan/ecumenical vision of God for All and to working together in the Grasmoor Mission Community of Derwent Deanery (which comprises the Cockermouth Team and the two rural benefices of Clifton, Dean and Mosser, and Lorton, Loweswater and Buttermere)
  • There will be warm support and collegiality from the clergy of the Mission Community;
  • The churches are in good heart;  there is a group of able and committed lay people whose support it is worth enlisting;  there are strong links with the county school in Lorton, which has recently joined the Diocesan Multi Academy Trust;  there are lots of opportunities for ministry.

They are looking for someone who:

  • will learn to love the people of these communities and offer pastoral care
  • is a good communicator and preacher
  • is committed to working collaboratively
  • is a trainer and enabler of the laity
  • understands rural communities, and will help others to as well
  • will develop and support work with children, families and young people
  • is a leader who can inspire
  • is prayerful and passionate, with a sympathy for tradition
  • can organise their time, including time off
