Sophie Hodge joins the diocese this week to take up the role of Stewardship Enabler as part of the God for All strategy.

Sophie grew up in London before moving to Devon to read theology at Exeter University. Her first professional role after graduating was as Fundraising and Publicity Manager at Exeter YMCA. This role combined her Christian faith with her passion for social justice. In the summer of 2014, Sophie moved to Cumbria to take up the role of Fundraising Manager at conservation charity, Friends of the Lake District. This move was partly motivated by her love of the outdoors and in particular the Lake District.

Sophie says “I am really excited to be taking on the role of Stewardship Enabler. I see Stewardship as a way of life, rooted in a knowledge of the extravagantly generous character of God. Stewardship calls us to see our lives and everything in it as being a gift from God: our beautiful creation, our homes, our money, our family and our friends. It also recognises the ultimate gift of Jesus Christ. As disciples we are compelled, out of love and gratitude for all God has done and who He is, to give our whole lives back to Him: our time, our money and our talents”.

“My hope is that Stewardship will become a way of life for us all. That it will set us apart as Christians, help us develop as disciples of Christ and act as a vehicle to enable God’s mission in the world, and through His Church. I really look forward to working with many of you on that journey”.

Sophie’s role will involve providing resources and support to local parishes and mission communities. The aim is to support churches in developing this aspect of discipleship within their congregations, to help establish the long-term sustainability of God’s church in Cumbria and to resource God’s mission in our county and beyond, especially through the God for All strategy.

Over the next few months Sophie will be spending time on induction and research whilst working with the Stewardship Management Group on strategy and how best to make her available throughout the Diocese. We are sure you will be hearing lots more from Sophie over the coming months.

Sophie lives in Penrith with her husband, Jamie. She attends Penrith Methodist Church and enjoys getting out into the countryside as often as she can.
