East Africa Food Crisis

A plea for your church from Christian Aid

As you read this, 10 million people across East Africa are facing severe food shortages caused by a combination of drought, irregular harvests, high food prices and displacement.

Christian Aid has launched an emergency appeal to support partners in Kenya, Ethiopia and Sudan to provide life-saving assistance including tanks of water to villages experiencing the worst drought conditions, food for families and animal feed to protect livestock that are so crucial for the pastoralists’ survival.

Help is urgently needed and so Christian Aid asks if you would consider holding a collection in your church.

Call 0870 078 7788 to order emergency giving envelopes for your congregation, or email and request item F1952E – emergency envelopes. You can also download an appeal poster here. Please include the people of the region in your prayers this Sunday.

Information for prayer and giving can be found at

If you would like support in running a collection, or a speaker to come to your church and inform you about the emergency, then please contact your regional support office by calling 01925 573769 or emailing

Your church’s prayers and giving will be vital in helping to avert disaster for many thousands of people in communities across East Africa.
