Derwent NYC (aka Wonder) is one of ten regional Network Youth Churches (NYC) in Cumbira. The countywide NYC is the fastest growing church in Cumbria, and this advertised role builds on the successful work already pioneered in the area; developing new Fresh Expressions of church with young people, through youth cafes, groups, drop-ins, as well as church and school linked groups. Much of the initial work is now self-sustaining, so this post is about identifying and growing new work in new ways in new areas to grow Fresh Expressions of church with young people. You will part of the county wide NYC team, and have the freedom to lead and grow the project locally.

    Post title: Pioneer Youth Worker

    Employer: The Diocese of Carlisle

    Hours of work: 35 hours

    Salary: £25,494

    Start date: TBC

Work base: there will be one in Cockermouth and one in Keswick reflecting the initial parts of the role. Accommodation: There is no accommodation provided with this post. Any assistance from the Diocese with accommodation is separate to any contract of employment. The worker is responsible for their own journey from their home to their base for that part of the week.

Duration of contract: This post builds on a previous part time role and the salary costs have been secured via the diocese as part of our ongoing commitment to NYC. However, expenses (e.g. travel, youth work budgets) are met by the local churches who have managed to find the increased cost for three years at this stage.
