Carlisle Diocesan Board of Finance - Trustee

The Diocese of Carlisle is seeking a new Trustee and potential Chair to support the flourishing of God’s Kingdom across Cumbria.
The new appointee would join colleagues on the Carlisle Diocesan Board of Finance who are committed to supporting mission throughout the county. The Board oversees annual income of around £8 million which funds ministry costs. The Diocese will also be looking for a successor as Chair of the Board as the current Chair, Jim Johnson, will step down by the end of June 2026.
The Acting Bishop of Carlisle, the Rt Rev Rob Saner-Haigh, said: “We look to the future with excitement and anticipation as we continue to discern and develop God’s plans to grow our mission countywide and bring the Good News of Jesus to as many people as possible.
“We’ve much to celebrate in our Diocese: the dedicated ministry of our clergy and laity, the abundance of God-given skills which abound, Cumbria’s rich heritage and Christian witness and a deep-rooted commitment to our county’s ecumenical vision and strategy, God for All. At the same time, we also recognise there are challenges for churches locally and for us a Diocese which create associated financial pressures. It is in this context that we are looking to prayerfully discern God’s chosen person to join our Board of Trustees; someone who shares the same passion to spread the Good News as widely as possible whilst stewarding our finances with care and dedication.”
Carlisle Diocesan Board of Finance is a Registered Charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee. The Board of Trustees consists of an ex officio Diocesan Bishop and three Archdeacons, plus five people elected by Diocesan Synod (the membership) and up to four additional co-optees. It meets six times a year for half a day.The full Charity meets three times a year. Terms of office are for three years each, with a maximum of three terms.
