Mothers' Union
Introduction
The Mothers' Union is a Christian organisation that is concerned with all aspects of marriage and family life. It fights against poverty, injustice and for family issues.The Mothers' Union has four million members worldwide in 83 different countries. It employs 300 grassroots workers from local communities around the world.
It runs:
- Parenting programmes
- Health and HIV/aids awareness programmes
- Literacy and Numeracy programmes (as supported in the last Bishop’s Harvest Appeal). Click here to read an evaluation of the impact of this work

- Campaigns and lobbies on family and domestic abuse issues
Here, in the Diocese of Carlisle Diocese, it provides:
- A caravan at St Bees for free holiday for those that need them but cannot afford them (contact AFIA@carlislediocesemothersunion.org.uk for details or check our website)
- Toilet bags for emergency hospital patients and comfort prayer cards through the chaplains
- Support to our two refuges and two domestic abuse charities in Cumbria
- Support to families with pre-school children: ask us about providing you with baptism books and cards and grants to get toddler events going

Mothers' Union membership is open to all: male, female, married, single, parent or not. The only requirement is that you have been baptised in the Trinity and can support the aims of the organisation.
