Growing Younger

Children and young people gathering in worship

Growing Younger is about ensuring young people feel seen, valued, and invited to take part in the life of the Church—wherever they are—discovering faith and beginning a lifelong journey of discipleship with Jesus.

We want to help local churches come alongside young people from birth to young adulthood (0–25 yrs), with a joined‑up approach that reflects the whole Church’s commitment to nurturing faith in young people. This has two main areas of work:

Children and Families

School children engaging with digital technology

We want to see faith in children, families and schools thrive across the diocese, therefore we are:

  • Supporting the growth of Children and Families mission across the diocese through tailored training and coaching for lay and ordained leaders.
  • Creating local opportunities for children to explore faith in ways that are fun, relational and high quality through new worshipping communities in schools and churches.

Young People and Young Adults

Young people engaged in worship with visible faces

Young people bring a rich perspective to churches across Cumbria; without it we are less than we could be. We will help young people and young adults to continue their faith journey through:

  • Supporting the development of our Network Youth Churchnetworkyouthchurch.org.uk
  • Continuing and developing our intern scheme for young leaders — nylp.co.uk
  • Creating opportunities for those aged 18–25 to gather and explore faith together.
