Vocations Sunday: April 26, 2026
The next Vocations Sunday is on Sunday 26 April 2026.
The Common Worship lectionary readings for the Principal Service are:
- Acts 2.42-47
- Psalm 23
- 1 Peter 2.19-25
- John 10.1-10
At his installation in Carlisle Cathedral in November, Bishop Rob described his vision for our diocese, " to help people know Jesus, to help people follow Jesus more closely, and to seek the beauty, the hope, the refreshment and the healing of the kingdom of God in all the places where we have been put." The first reading, from Acts 2, describes the life of the early church and the practices of discipleship that enable every Christian to respond to God's calling to live out their faith in their everyday lives, bringing the hope of the gospel into every part of our county. The sermon notes and hymn suggestions below focus on that call to faith in everyday life.
We also have prayer cards available for people to use to pray and reflect on their own vocation, and to invite others to pray for them. They are available from Steve Minto at Steve.minto@carlislediocese.org.uk

Vocations Course
Exploring your Call is a four-week course for every Christian. It is about exploring vocation in its widest sense, and helping participants to discern their calling, taking into account their gifts, their passions, and the way that God is at work in the world. The unifying theme is that vocation is found at the intersection of gifts, passions, and the world’s need. Discernment is about listening to God, the community, the Church, and oneself. It is available here.
Other courses on particular areas of ministry are available here.
