  • Lent Talks at Longtown Community Centre

    The Esk Parishes Lent talks will be held, on successive Wednesdays before Easter. We shall meet again in the Esk Lounge of the Longtown Memorial Community Centre from 2pm to 3.15pm. The general theme this year is The Church and Problematic Social Issues.

    February 28th: Antonia Sobocki: The Church and Abuse.
    Antonia is founder of the international charity LoudFence which supports victims of abuse

    March 6th: John Parratt: The Church and Assisted Dying.
    John was formerly professor of Theology at the University of Birmingham: his most recent book is So we live, forever bidding farewell: Theology and Assisted Dying.’

    March 13th: David Greybe: The Church and Race.
    David was a journalist during the apartheid era in South Africa, and also covered the transition to democracy there.

    March 20th: Belinda Stanley: The Church and Gender Identity.
    The Rev. Dr. Belinda has been a consultant physician specialising in sexual health and is now an ordained priest attached to Carlisle Cathedral.
