Legacy Giving
Legacy giving is an important part of our Christian discipleship. Generosity is at the heart of the gospel, as is our call to be stewards of all the resources God has given us. Leaving a gift in your Will can be a significant extension of our generous giving, it is a way of continuing to support our local churches into the future and helps us to steward our resources for the good of our loved ones.
Every year, churches in Carlisle Diocese receive on average over £1million through gifts in Wills. No matter what the size of individual gifts, this type of giving can have a transformative impact on our local churches, whether they are used to fund building projects, employ new staff or provide vital core funding.
How to promote legacies in your church?
1. Designate someone to come to our legacy online training on Thursday 16 March, usually a treasurer, giving or legacy officer, churchwarden or clergy person. To register, email stewardship@carlislediocese.org.uk
2. Plan a legacy Sunday during ‘Legacy Week’: Sunday 23 April or Sunday 30 April.
3. Make legacy literature available in the church for free – click here.
4. Promote Farewill – the National Church’s Will writing service. The National Church have designated 50 free Wills to Carlisle Diocese, to use during Legacy Week. Details of how to benefit from these 50 free Wills will be shared at the online training on Thursday 16 March.
