A Legacy Themed Sunday Service

Orders of Service

The Service Orders for the Eucharist and Service of the Word are provided in three formats.

The formatted version is produced with a small amount of colouring and a bright font to help make your service a celebration and to help introduce the theme of Legacy Week.

The Word version has no formatting so that you can add or subtract any content that you wish, including personalising it with your church name. You could add your own formatting or pictures.

Bookfold means that it will print in the correct order so that when you collate the printed version it will follow the flow of the service correctly with the pages in order.

The pdf version is a copy of the Word version, but you will not be able to edit it. What you see is what you will get.

You might prefer not to print these versions of the service orders but instead, keep to the orders that you use week by week in your church. The ‘Optional Wording for Existing Services’ sheet has a suggested Introduction to the Prayer of Confession, Collect, First Reading, Gospel Reading, Introduction to the Peace and Blessing that your service leader can insert into your own service orders.

Preaching materials

Visiting speaker
Whichever Sunday Service materials you use, if you would like a visiting preacher to come to your Legacy Service, please contact us as early as possible: stewardship@carlislediocese.org.uk

Sermon Template
Alternatively, you can use the ‘Legacy Sunday Suggested Sermon’ template based on Acts: 9 36-40 and Luke 12:13-21. This is a Word version, so you can edit it as much as you would like.

Sharing Legacy Stories

As part of your Legacy Sunday, we recommend churches share a story of how a previous legacy has made a difference to your church. However, if you don’t have one, or would prefer a different story, you can download and play this video which describes the difference legacy gifts have made to one small church in West Cumbria.
