What is Legacy Sunday?
What is Legacy Sunday?
Legacy Sunday is a specific day when Carlisle Diocese will be supporting parishes in promoting Legacy Giving. We are encouraging churches to designate 23rd June 2024 as ‘Legacy Sunday’.
On this day churches can:
- Benefit from the 50 free Wills available to individuals in Carlisle Diocese via Farewill, a partnership with the National Church of England.
- Display free legacy literature in your church – click here.
- Request an outside speaker from the Diocese, if available, to preach during Legacy Sunday, on a relevant theme. To request a speaker please email stewardship@carlislediocese.org.uk
What will Legacy Sunday look like?
We would encourage churches to consider including some of the elements below in their Legacy Sunday:
- A preach - maybe from our pool of preachers, or from the parish’s own preaching team. Preaching resources will be available on our website. If you would like to request a visiting speaker for Legacy Sunday please email stewardship@carlislediocese.org.uk
- Where possible, include a story of how a legacy has made a difference to your church.
- Make legacy literature available in the church – Click here to order.
- A clear explanation of how someone can leave a gift in their Will to your local church. This could include:
- an explanation of how to use one of our free Wills to write a Will via Farewill
- signposting members to the ‘How you can make a Lasting Gift to your church’ leaflet
- signposting someone in the church who is willing to have a confidential conversation about leaving a gift in your Will to the local church.
